This state-of-the-art facility serves as a regional center of excellence for forensic death investigation and medico-legal autopsy services. Serving Hennepin, Dakota, and Scott counties, as well as other referral-based counties covering more than half of Minnesota and Wisconsin, the facility features 11 autopsy and two decomp autopsy stations, storage for over 130 decedents, specialized examination and analysis areas, tissue recovery, investigations, and advanced observation and training spaces. The design prioritizes safety, security, efficiency, flexibility, and accreditation, while also supporting the mental, emotional, and social health of staff through trauma-informed design and views of natural surroundings.
The building incorporates energy-saving strategies, green lab initiatives and advanced engineering infrastructure to improve long-term efficiency and reduce operational costs. In addition to its operational functions, the facility integrates training and education spaces and has become a nationwide destination for professional education in forensic science.
