This forensic laboratory is designed for toxicology, controlled substances, and latent prints. Each laboratory with its extensive instrumentation labs provides forensic analysis for residents in Henderson and beyond. This combined facility was the outcome of a comprehensive master plan analysis of the Sheriff’s Office forensic departments, which were previously scattered across campuses and compromised efficiency and chain of custody of lab operations. The new consolidated facility is organized around optimal lab workflow and optimal adjacency and relationships between various labs and lab support spaces, to maintain security separations and still enable maintenance and management of lab infrastructure, all of which can be accessed from the corridor without entering labs, maintaining the integrity of the labs, even during maintenance, lab water or chemical tank switchovers.
The project includes:
Mapped connections between labs, sequences, workflow, movement control, hazard mitigation, disposal, storage, and scientific custody for research integrity
Toxicology / blood chemistry labs and instrumentation rooms
PPE, equipment loading / receiving / secure storage
Destruction storage and bio-safety storage for materials deaccessioned
Chemical, water, DI, air compression loading, secure storage and protection
Crime scene evidence control, intake, extraction and storage
Narcotics and biologicals storage meeting temp, humidity, security and credentialing requirements
Facility designed to be FBI narcotics storage, CALEA, ASCLD and ANAB accreditation
