Crime and Forensic Laboratories
Whether for evidence or public health, we design facilities that help justice and medical examiners find answers that protect communities.
Forensic science answers critical questions for two missions. Crime laboratories give investigators and courts evidence they can trust. Medical examiner offices determine cause and manner of death, and in doing so they often provide a community's earliest warning of emerging threats, from new and deadly drug strains to infectious disease and hidden risks to infants. Both depend on facilities that protect the integrity of every sample, every finding, and every conclusion.
At LEO A DALY, our architects and engineers design forensic facilities around the work itself. For crime labs, we plan controlled pathways for evidence of intake, processing, and storage that support chain of custody and help labs meet accreditation standards. For medical examiner offices, we design autopsy suites, specimen handling, and laboratory spaces that protect staff's health and safety while supporting rigorous scientific inquiry.
Across both, our engineering teams deliver the specialized systems these facilities require: carefully controlled airflow and pressurization, laboratory exhaust, infection control, redundant power, and the flexibility to adapt as science advances. We design with dignity and care as well. Medical examiner facilities serve grieving loved ones, with respectful spaces for consultation, anonymity, and mourning. And for the scientists and staff who do this demanding work every day, natural light, intuitive layouts, and places to collaborate and to step away to support accuracy, focus, and long-term well-being.
