The North Metro Regional Public Safety Training Facility was established through a partnership between the City of Maple Grove and the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office to provide firearms and classroom training for regional public safety agencies. As training needs evolved, the facility required significant expansion and modernization to accommodate new training methods and increased demand. LEO A DALY led the Minnesota predesign effort and associated activities required to prepare the project for support from the state, followed by full design and construction administration services.
The project included 34,675 SF of new construction and 23,185 SF of renovation, expanding and modernizing the facility to support nearly 20 regional public safety organizations and future customer organizations that utilize the facility.
The program centered on five distinct training environments supported by secure front-and back-of-house spaces:
Reality-Based Training: Flexible indoor and outdoor environments that replicate a variety of real-world scenarios, incorporating multiple levels, stairs, garage access, and configurable training elements.
Response to Resistance Training: Dedicated space for de-escalation, crisis intervention, and response-to-resistance training.
Firearms Proficiency Training: An additional range with increased training lanes and vehicular access, expanding capacity and easing scheduling demands.
Virtual Simulation Training: Dedicated space for state-of-the-art decision-making simulation technology with flexibility to accommodate future technologies.
Classroom Training: Flexible classrooms accommodating 30 to 50 people individually or approximately 80 to 100 when combined.
The addition and renovation provide regional public safety organizations with realistic, flexible, and technology-supported environments for scenario-based training, de-escalation, firearms proficiency, decision-making, and classroom instruction.
