Las Vegas Metro K-9 Services & Operations Facility

Las Vegas Metro K-9 Services & Operations Facility

LEO A DALY was commissioned to design a new K-9 services/operations center for the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department that houses one of the longest-established K-9 units in the U.S. The K-9 section of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department consists of 16 police officers, 3 police sergeants, 1 lieutenant and 35 working police dogs. These highly trained dogs, much like their human counterparts, are professionals in their field. This project served as a replacement for the department’s previous facility which was a repurposed automotive shop and necessary for quality of training and life for both human and canine officers in the unit.

The new facility reflects many principles found in modern animal services facilities emphasizing animal welfare, operational workflow, sustainability, and public interface—balancing mission-critical performance with humane, high-quality environments for dogs who are highly trained professionals respected for their service and commitment and focus on life-saving work. The facility includes:

  • Advanced HVAC systems with high air-exchange rates to eliminate odors and prevent the spread of airborne illnesses like kennel cough.

  • Durable and sanitary materials like high-efficiency floor drainage and non-porous surfaces (like PVC or epoxy) to ensure rapid cleaning and disinfection.

  • Safety "Enclosed Ports": With intake spaces to allow employees to unload dogs in a fully enclosed, secure area to prevent escapes.

  • Stress-reducing kennel design.

  • Canine obstacle training course

  • 9,186 SF grass area

  • Efficient circulation for staff safety.

  • Integrated medical support/grooming spaces
