The creation of a new Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office Public Safety Services Headquarters represents a new patrol headquarters facility for the Sheriff’s Office’s entire patrol operations and fleet.
The complex, located in Plymouth on a secure campus that is presently home to the Emergency Communications Facility and three Hennepin County corrections facilities, supports various department roles including leadership administration, patrol, investigations and the crime lab.
As a mission-critical project supporting core departmental operations within a unified public safety campus, the site was carefully organized to optimize vehicle response, logistics, safety, and security. LEO A DALY simultaneously balanced these requirements with aspirational goals to provide an environmentally resilient and sustainable project that features the region’s largest solar-power-supported secure electric vehicle squad garage, the harvesting of renewable energy on-site, and the promotion of occupant wellness through connection to the outdoor environment.
The new, secure facility houses evidence storage, a communications center, armory, SWAT team, and vehicle storage for approximately 120 vehicles — including infrastructure to support integration of an electric fleet. The project will meet the State of Minnesota’s Buildings, Benchmarks, and Beyond (B3) goals, and the completed project is designed to surpass sustainability metrics set forth by the Hennepin County Stewardship plan. The project is modeled to achieve net zero carbon emissions.
