This complete renovation of the nine-story Edward Zorinsky Federal Building included replacement of the building facade and heating/cooling, plumbing, lighting and electrical systems. While not LEED® certified, the project followed the principles of the U.S. Green Building Council. Sustainable design features included reuse and revitalization of the structure, replacement of windows with energy efficient windows, installation of sun shelves and sun-shade devices at exterior windows, use of recyclable and recycled renovation materials, rooftop rainwater collection as greywater to flush toilets, photo-voltaic rooftop solar collectors and installation of a highly energy efficient HVAC system. With Applied Research Associates, Inc., LEO A DALY provided blast analysis and design solution following U.S. Department of Defense criteria.
