The Shikhar & Kristin Saxena Health Center is a transformative outpatient destination that expands access to specialized care while creating a new gateway to Nebraska Medicine's Midtown Omaha campus. Originally known as the Farnam Health Center during design and construction, the 98,400 SF facility brings together dermatology, endoscopy, general internal medicine, behavioral health, and educational functions within a highly integrated environment designed to support the future of outpatient care.
Situated on a challenging, steeply sloping site, the building transforms topographic constraints into opportunities for innovation and identity. A dramatic three-story glass volume anchors the facility, filling interior spaces with natural daylight and creating a welcoming presence along one of Omaha's most prominent corridors. The design emphasizes openness, visibility, and intuitive wayfinding, helping patients, families, and staff navigate the facility with ease.
Accessibility and connectivity were central to the design. A pedestrian bridge links the health center directly to an adjacent parking structure, while a new circulation tower strengthens connections to the broader campus and surrounding innovation district. The building's distinctive architectural expression combines precast concrete, expansive curtain wall systems, and sculptural solar-shading elements to create a healthcare environment that is both highly functional and visually impactful.
More than a healthcare facility, the Shikhar & Kristin Saxena Health Center demonstrates how thoughtful design can transform a complex site into a landmark destination that advances patient care, supports education, and reinforces the identity of an established academic health campus.
