Winona State University, Education Village

As part of the effort to renovate and expand three former 1920s through 1960s era education buildings on campus, the University turned to LEO A DALY to manage and coordinate an in-depth research and decision-making process that helped the school identify the architectural programming and adaptive reuse scope of work to be designed for 115,497 SF of academic space. This included:

Helble Hall, Renovation and Expansion (Constructed in 1958)

  • New front entry

  • Created a new central hub with a multi-functional commons for small and large gatherings and independent and small group collaborative study

  • Created experiential overlap among all departments in the College of Education

  • Contains T.E.A.L. (Technology Enabled Active Learning) environments as well as office suites

Cathedral School (Constructed in the late 1920s)

  • Converted spaces into classrooms, post-graduate teacher development functions, and administrative offices

  • Renovated historic classroom with hardwood floors and slate chalkboards, which represent an aging learning environment still ever-present in the spectrum of American Schools

Wabasha Recreation Center (Constructed in the late 1920s)

  • New front entry

  • Converted the building into the space for Physical Education and Sports Sciences (PESS)

  • Expansion provided a new main building entry, departmental office space, classroom, collaboration spaces, equipment storage, and restrooms.
