First opened in 1926 as the La Quinta Hotel, the property included 1,400 acres of land with 20 guest casitas, serving as an escape for Hollywood’s elite. The hotel evolved into a resort through the the addition of 700 casitas, suites and villas, prominent tennis facilities, luxury spa services and a renowned golf course. This project updated to the public spaces and guestrooms a refreshed design that preserves the property’s distinct character and remains true to its identity. The scope of work included all public areas, comprising the lobby, plaza, three restaurants, adult pool, and all guestrooms of various types.

Each design decision elevated detail and experience to sustain La Quinta’s perception and reputation as a luxury, world-class resort. The team drew inspiration from the desert climate and celebrated existing materials uncovered on site such as textural adobe, rich tiled roofs, rustic woods and brightly colored Mexican hand-painted tiles. Mexican hand-painted tiles and the hand-crafted Mexican wood furniture showcased throughout the La Quinta property were custom-made and exclusive for this project. For the furniture, the design team collaborated with artisans and manufacturers who executed with historical precision to restore original pieces of furniture from their hacienda days. This project helped La Quinta retain its status as one of the top resorts in the world, an oasis, a retreat and an iconic landmark with a deep history in Coachella Valley.
