Saint Margaret Mary Catholic Church is a superb example of English gothic architecture. Nestled on six and half beautifully landscaped acres, the church is a solid landmark in the city and part of the history of Omaha.

Although classic in design, the church achieves both a simple and natural effect through the use of the grey Indiana limestone. Even the original church spire and cross blend with the variegated colors of the roof which set off the stonework of the exterior against a landscape of evergreen trees. A flagstone walkway leads to the main entrance adorned with hand-carved copper panels.

The interior is highlighted with a dark wood timbered ceiling that contrasts with the walls and arches of limestone. Soft lighting is used and the absence of bright metals is deliberate in setting the tone for quiet reflection. The floors under the pews are terrazzo, with the main aisles designed with slate, and the sanctuary floor is set off with a pattern of hand-made tiles.

The sacristy and the parish office lead to a connecting space. This connector was planned from the beginning to allow for future expansion.

LEO A DALY has been involved with the parish since 1921 when their first school was organized. The original church was designed and completed in 1941, with school additions and expansions completed in the 1950s. The bell tower was designed in 1961, with additional church remodeling projects ongoing, including the added vestibule in the 1980s.
