Every two years the Society of American Military Engineers (SAME) celebrates design excellence in the built environment. The SAME 2024 Design Merit Award was presented to members of the LEO A DALY planning, architecture, engineering and interior design team during the Society Ball & Awards Gala at the 2024 JETC conference in Orlando.

“The entire focus of design for the James A. Haley VA Mental Health Center—both inside and out—was to create a healing, therapeutic, restorative environment that would help enhance the lives of Veterans,” shared Federal Healthcare Global Account Lead, Peter A. Yakowicz, PE, MHA. “After three months in operation, it is also so rewarding to hear firsthand from staff how the planning and design of the facility makes it easier for them to do their important work.”

LEO A DALY’s ongoing collaboration with Veterans and the VA Staff who care for them has led to the transformation of Veterans’ health experiences.

Is this really for us?” asked a Veteran visiting the James A. Haley VA Mental Health Center for the first time.

“And if we are not inviting, if we are not welcoming, then that communication can be lost, and the veteran themselves can be lost on top of it.” shared Dr. Glenn Smith, Retired VA Mental Health Specialist and Veteran James A. Haley VA

“Our staff love coming to work here,” Bradiel Perez Pagan, Clinic Manager at the James A. Haley VA Mental Health Center

LEO A DALY provided full integrated design services including medical planning, architectural, interior design, structural engineering and MEP services for the award-winning VA mental health facility, which began seeing patients in ealy 2024.
