LEO A DALY triumphs at IIDA’s Cosmo Couture Competition for the second time

A LEO A DALY team won the Haute Couture award for overall excellence at the 2024 Cosmo Couture competition, sponsored by the International Interior Design Association. This marks the second time LEO A DALY has won the Haute Couture award in this fashion-interior design competition.

Every two years, the competition challenges design firms to partner with interior product manufacturers to create garments made from materials used in built environments that align with the year’s theme and present them on the runway for evaluation by members of the fashion design industry. This year, LEO A DALY collaborated with Mecho Shade window coverings to craft a breathtaking dress that showcased both creativity and craftsmanship.

The award-winning team from LEO A DALY includes senior project designer Clif Sullivan, interior designer Steven Mion and technical designer Natalia Horstman. Together, they transformed Mecho materials including window shades and bead cords, into a muted gray ensemble that matched the theme of “Out of this World.”

“I loved that we were able to work with the material, using it to its best advantage to create this design,” Sullivan said. “We all were able to get our hands on it and understand it and work with its strengths to push to the finish line.”

“Whenever we hit a problem we saw it as a new opportunity to grow the design in a new direction,” Mion said. “I enjoyed using our flexibility to solve the problems that arose.”

“After multiple iterations and design conflicts with both the material and our concept, the final outfit ended up being what we envisioned to begin with making it come to life,” Horstman said.
