King Hamad American Mission Hospital (KHAMH) in A’ali, Bahrain, has been accredited with the prestigious ‘Diamond Status’ and named a ‘Centre of Excellence for Infection Prevention and Control’ by the National Health Regulatory Authority (NHRA).

The new 150-bed, multispecialty facility is also a key teaching hospital for the Royal College of Surgeons Ireland (RCSI) in Bahrain and collaborates with Mayo Clinic in the United States.

“We congratulate KHAMH’s leadership, medical professionals, and support staff on this remarkable achievement,” celebrated M. Mahdi Mansour, the managing principal of LEO A DALY’s Abu Dhabi studio. “Our international healthcare design team is honored to work with KHAMH and support their world-class healthcare delivery and wellness-promoting vision.”

Compliant with NHRA and International Infection Prevention and Control (IPC), the design gives specific attention to hospital-acquired infections. Negative pressure triage rooms, neonatal intensive care units (NICU), emergency rooms (ER), intensive care units (ICU), and hybrid operating rooms with surfaces that do not support microbial growth and prevent contamination are incorporated throughout the 1.2 million SQM healthcare facility.

Working as a subconsultant to lead designer Aref Sadeq Design Consultants, LEO A DALY performed third party review to confirm compliance on all healthcare planning, plus the mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and façade engineering design. The hospital’s main lobby, waiting areas, and patient rooms also were conceptualized by the experienced healthcare design team in LEO A DALY’s Abu Dhabi studio.
