Cobalt Credit Union Branch

Omaha, Nebraska

This project transformed an abandoned video store in a blighted area to a functional and sustainable credit union branch facility for Cobalt Credit Union (formerly SAC Federal Credit Union). Needing only 2,800-SF of the original 5,000-SF, the drive-thru was “blown through” the existing building to eliminate the need for a drive-up canopy and to reduce materials. The original heavily tinted glass was replaced with new clear-glass systems, to increase daylighting and visibility, with a new window added for a conference room. The lobby features an Internet kiosk, coffee bar, teller area and lounge seating. The exposed lobby ceiling creates a tall open space adjacent to four offices with unobstructed lobby views. A privacy screen was created from wood slats to obstruct views to the manager’s office and conference room while still providing natural light.
