A Work of Art Designed for Works of Art
Boca Raton, Florida
The Humanities and Technology Building was designed to support the mission of Palm Beach Community College by offering students an accessible and affordable artistic education. The design of the building was meant to excite and engage students and faculty in the development and teaching of art, painting, architecture, video technology and other humanities. Central to the design were the concepts of light, movement and space. Consistent with this mission, the new building provides state-of-the-art technology in multi-dimensional classrooms, studios, labs, computer labs and display areas.
The design of the ground floor includes an Auditorium Multimedia Lecture Hall with pre-function Lobby/Gallery and Instructional Art studio/labs for Graphic Design, Drawing and Architecture as well as Art Appreciation with tiered seating. The 400 seat lecture hall can be used for distance learning as well as community events.
Other subject-specific spaces include classrooms for music, theater, art, speech, web design, and media technology. Two Socratic teaching classrooms are also part of the program, introducing a non-traditional setting where expression of free thought is emphasized.
